Studio journal

Hi, I'm Natalia. This is my first post

Natalia with the 'Tożsamość' diploma catalogue

So, here we go. For a long time I had it in the back of my head to have my own little corner of the internet where I can simply write, show my paintings and let you in behind the scenes a bit. And it is finally here. My name is Natalia Guz, I paint mostly in oil and acrylic, and paint has been with me for as long as I can remember.

What pulls me in most is colour and people, which is why I make so many portraits. But I also like coming back to landscape and the sea, because they calm me down. On this blog I want to show how my work comes to life: from the first idea, through the sketch, up to that moment when a painting suddenly starts to live its own life. Because that is honestly how it feels sometimes.

What I will write about here

I would like this to be my kind of backstage. I will be posting new paintings, talking about inspirations and showing the studio in its normal, untidy state. Every now and then I will probably write something about commissioned portraits too, because a lot of people ask about them. No pressure, just as it comes.

One of the paintings that are close to my heart.

This one has been hanging in my place for a long time and I keep coming back to it. I am not going to play an art critic here, I will simply tell you why this colour and why this particular frame.

A word about language

I write in Polish, because it is my language and I feel free in it, I can say exactly what I mean. You will find the English version as a translation, so that people from abroad can read along too. And one more thing that matters to me: these texts are not written by AI. I write them myself, in my own way. A typo or an overly long sentence will slip in now and then, but in return it is entirely mine.

Thank you for being here. Stick around, because there is a lot coming. And if you feel like seeing the paintings, take a look at the gallery, all the rooms are hanging there.
